Project Details

Scope of Work: LSBU is by far the largest by far carbon fibre strengthening project carried out in a building in the UK to date, its predecessors (Blyth Rd & Hill House), also carried out by CCUK in previous years come nowhere near this one.

The Challenge

The London South Bank University Project (LSBU) was an extremely complex composite strengthening design, working extremely closely with Eckersley O’Callaghan Consulting Engineers this design and build project resulted in over 8000m2 of Tyfo Fibrwrap Carbon Fibre Strengthening Systems being installed over a 14 month period.

The Solution

Along with the Tyfo Fibrwrap Systems the project also required over 14,000 Tyfo carbon fibre anchors for both flexural and shear strengthening of beams along with 300 linear metres of WEBER carbon fibre plates for flexural strengthening of waffle slabs, finally over 1000m2 of Tyfo Fire Protection Systems was installed all by CCUK.

The Result

An extremely in depth composite design process resulted in nearly 300 individual design cases over multiple locations on 4 floors over 9 phases, the design carried out by CCUK and its affiliates took over 500 man hours to complete. Strengthening designs included beams for flexure, hogging and sagging. Waffle slabs for additional shear capacity, upstand beams, shear walls and riser openings.
