Slab Strengthening

Duration:

5 Days

Project Details

Scope of Work: Capital Interchange Way is situated within the heart of the Brentford regeneration area, just moments away from the new Brentford Community Stadium. The scheme transforms a formerly derelict brownfield site into a vibrant mixed-use development, delivering 420 new homes alongside 4,200 sqm of new retail and commercial space, due for completion in 2025.

The site benefits from excellent transport connections, with Kew Bridge and Gunnersbury stations both within walking distance, as well as easy access to the amenities of Brentford and Chiswick town centres.

The Challenge

During the construction phase, the client identified several areas where the reinforcement within the slabs had been incorrectly designed, resulting in insufficient capacity. The project team faced two significant challenges: a very tight timescale to maintain handover deadlines and the need to carry out the strengthening works within essentially completed residential units.

This required a strengthening solution that was fast, clean, and minimally disruptive to the surrounding finishes.

The Solution

CCUK quickly developed a carbon fibre strengthening solution using Sikawrap 900C materials. The design process was straightforward and completed within one week, allowing prompt approval from both the client and the project’s structural engineers.

Following approval, a team of three Fibre wrap applicators attended site to strengthen six slab areas. The works were completed efficiently and safely over just five days, ensuring the programme remained on schedule.

The Result

The strengthening scheme was completed within the challenging timeframe and to the full satisfaction of the client and design team. By utilising a lightweight, high-performance composite system, CCUK provided a durable and effective solution that restored the required structural capacity without affecting the finished appearance of the units.

The project demonstrated CCUK’s ability to deliver precise engineering solutions under tight constraints, contributing to the successful delivery of this landmark regeneration development in Brentford.
